VOICE Milestones 2001-2007

2001     -     International Year of the Volunteer
            February
-     A convention of academic volunteer program stakeholders and their partners was organized by the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod System of the University of the Philippines.
            December
-     An international conference to address the role of volunteerism in strengthening civil society in developing countries was convened by SEARSOLIN-Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City, where the need to have a mechanism to facilitate the exchange of information and resources between volunteer organizations was felt.
2002
            March
-     A succeeding consultation was held in Cagayan de Oro to explore the possibility of putting up a network of volunteer organization.
May

-     The research to consolidate VOICE, “Beyond Ningas-Kugon”, was presented by Dr. Grace Aguiling-Dalisay in Beijing, China during the International Conference on Voluntary Service.
July
-     The results of the consultations were presented. The Vision-Mission-Goals Planning Session was held in Balay Kalinaw, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
2003
            June
-       Requirements for the VOICE Network operations were put in place. Regional and national offices were put up. Clusters were formed in NCR, Baguio-Benguet, Naga, Cavite, Iloilo, Tacloban, Cebu, Zamboanga, Davao and Cagayan de Oro. Cluster coordinators were also identified.
August
-       VOICE assisted in the Psychology of Volunteering Project of the Pambansang Samahan sa Sikolohiyang Pilipino (PSSP) by linking the research team with the informants (volunteers from 5 key areas in the Philippines).

            September
-     VOICE was registered as a non-stock, non-profit organization at the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Board served a dual function as the VOICE management team. Meetings were held on a quarterly basis to discuss VOICE policies and procedures.

-     A Training Workshop on Documenting Best/Good Practices in Volunteering was held in Cebu, and attended by representatives from organizations within the nine (9) clusters of VOICE at that time.

October

-     Three members of the Management Team had a Study Visit to Singapore and Thailand, where possible collaborative work with the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and the Thai Volunteer Service (TVS) was discussed.

November
-     Courtesy of VSO, and in partnership with UPD CSSP, VOICE held a seminar on the costs and impact of volunteering with Justin Davis Smith, Director of Institute for Volunteering Research, UK, as featured speaker.
-     Upon the invitation of VSO-Bahaginan, VOICE coordinated the study tour and roundtable discussions as part of the VSO Conference on National Volunteering in Cebu.

December
-     As a precursor of the envisioned VOICE volunteer sharing sessions, UP Pahinungod Visayas and the Year of Service held a simultaneous mid-year evaluation, retreat and "debriefing" in the Mercidarian Retreat Center in Panglao, Bohol.
2004

            February-March
-       With the aim of validating the results of the various VOICE Board/Management Team and cluster meetings, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) were held with volunteers from organizations in three regions: Naga, NCR and Tacloban.

            March
-       The First VOICE General Assembly was held at Intel Cavite with over 200 volunteers from the ten VOICE  regional clusters in attendance.

            July
-       The network was joined by two new Board of Trustees members. Bishop Antonio J. Ledesma,S.J., bishop of  Ipil, Zamboanga, has been involved in social development work for decades. Ms. Lourdes Molina-Fernandez,       Editor-in-Chief of Today newspaper, helps in promoting VOICE advocacies.
-       UN Volunteers and VOICE formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement. Both institutions would help promote its programs and strengthen the partnership through sharing of information    and resources.
-       VOICE participated in the Corporate Social Responsibility Expo in PICC, and at the La Salle Job Expo to promote the network's programs and increase public awareness on volunteerism.
-       VOICE presented the national volunteer network model to the Mongolian delegates of the Study Tour       organized by Bahaginan.

            September
-       The First National Network Planning was organized in Cagayan de Oro City, attended by the regional and       cluster coordinators/representatives and the National Secretariat. Updates and plans on cluster programs and       activities were discussed.

            November
-       VOICE systems and policies were developed based on the results of cluster consultations, national   planning and Board of Trustees discussions. These include recruitment and membership policies, BOT expansion,       institutional partnerships, and structural functions.

            December
-       In celebration of the National Volunteers' Month, VOICE helped out in designing and implementing a Volunteer Fair in Clamshell, Intramuros. A forum, round table discussion, and exhibit were organized to promote       volunteerism across sectors.
-       The Oplan Sagip Bagyo was the first inter-regional and inter-cluster activity organized by VOICE Mindanao.    The local cluster members initiated fund raising activities and pooling of relief goods for distribution in Quezon       Province through VOICE-NCR.
-       A concert, "Noel Sings for VOICE", was organized by the VOICE National Secretariat and VOICE-cluster to       promote volunteerism and gather volunteer advocates.
-       VOICE nominated two of the network members to the National Search for Outstanding Volunteers      organized by PNVSCA. Mr. Timothy Gabuna, VOICE BOT Treasurer was awarded as one of the outstanding      volunteers for 2004. Intel Involved (VOICE-Cavite Cluster) received special citation for its employee volunteering       program.

2005
            February
-       Three delegates from VOICE joined the Study Tour in Canada organized by VSO-Bahaginan. There was a rich exchange of the volunteer organizations' best practices.

            March
-       VOICE shared its programs and activities with the Chinese Study Tour participants, also organized by VSO       Bahaginan.

            April
-       The First National Volunteers Summit was held in Cagayan de Oro City. Themed, "Volunteers: Resource for       Development", this was attended upon by 250 delegates composed of volunteers, volunteer managers, volunteer     advocates, and development workers. The contribution of volunteers to national development was given focus             through conferences, program exhibits, community building activities, study tour, and launching of the VOICE Volunteer Resource Center.
-       The 2nd General Assembly of the network was successfully held in Cagayan de Oro City. Reports were  presented by the National Secretariat and the clusters.

June
-       A Strategic Planning of the Board of Trustees and the National Secretariat was held in Antipolo City.
-       A Memorandum of Agreement was signed with Philippine Association for Volunteer Effort (PAVE).

            August
-       The 2nd National Coordinators' Meeting (NCM) was held in Cebu City.
-       Four VOICE clusters organized local activities in celebration of the International Youth day.

            September
-       Four delegates from VOICE attended the Volunteer Program Development & Management Certificate Course       in Cagayan de Oro City.

            November

-       Two delegates from VOICE attended the IAVE Regional Conference in Hong Kong.

            December
-       A Memorandum of Agreement was signed with Intel Foundation for the Volunteer Matching Grant Program       (VMGP).
-       The 3rd National Coordinators' Meeting was held in Iloilo City.
-       International Volunteers Month was celebrated across VOICE clusters.

2006

            March
-       Good practices of NCR academe-based volunteer service programs were documented.
-       Data gatherers for the Research on National Volunteering were trained.
-       A Training Module on Setting-Up a Volunteer Service Program, "Finding Your VOICE", was developed.
-       The 3rd VOICE General Assembly was held in Miriam College, Quezon City.
-       The 2nd National Volunteers Summit was held in Miriam College, Quezon City. Themed, "Embracing the       Filipino Culture of Volunteerism", around 300 volunteers and advocates graced the event.

            May
-       The VOICE National Office had Planning and Assessment in Bulacan.

            June
-       The Research on National Volunteering began its operations in the VOICE clusters.

            July
-       VOICE Programs were repackaged to better facilitate the exchange of information and resources among       stakeholders. The organizational structure was also restructured.

            August
-       VOICE convened the round table discussion on Volunteerism and the Academe held in Miriam College,       Quezon City.

            September
-       VOICE Visayas and Mindanao clusters were visited to discuss network concerns.
-       VOICE accommodated another Study Tour organized by VSO-Bahaginan.

            November
-       The 4th National Coordinators Meeting was held in Cebu City.

            December
-       VOICE helped in organizing the International Volunteer Day Celebration held in De La Salle-College of Saint       Benilde. It was highlighted by the presentation of the results of PAVE's Round Table Discussion Series between sectors which VOICE documented.
-       The National Volunteers Month was celebrated across VOICE clusters through local activities and events.

2007
            January
-       VOICE Membership was reorganized and updated.

            February
-       Board of Trustees Meeting and Elections were held in Miriam College, Quezon City.
-       VOICE shared best practices with start-up African volunteer organizations.

            March
-       Clusters voted for their respective new coordinators and co-coordinators.
-       VOICE found its new office in Miriam College, Quezon City.
