VOICE Core Principles

• Volunteerism
Volunteerism is the heart and soul of our organization. We recognize the myriad contributions of our volunteers and we seek to promote and encourage volunteerism as a way of life.

• Participatory governance
We believe in the power of ‘many'. We encourage our members to take direct involvement/active participation, and support accountability in the planning, decision-making, implementation and management of our programs and services.

• Sharing of organization's distinctive competence
We value the work and expertise of our member organizations & partners. We respect the knowledge and experience that others have to effectively address issues and concerns in our communities. Our goal is to engage in an honest dialogue on how to best combine our talents, skills and resources.

• Innovative thinking
Our organization grows through innovative thinking. We are not constrained by fixed ideas. We learn from the past, but are not limited by it. We proactively approach challenges and opportunities with innovative thinking to develop creative solutions. We value innovative thinking that has the potential to expand our programs and better serve our stakeholders.

• Collaboration/Partnerships
We value partnerships. We recognize the importance of working with various volunteer organizations to reflect the diverse backgrounds of communities we seek to serve. We value the input we receive from our partner organizations, and strive to work together collaboratively.

• Commitment to ethical practices in volunteering
We are committed to the ethical practices of volunteerism. We believe and firmly advocate the rights of volunteers and respect proper norms in our conduct of our actions.

• Respect for local and indigenous cultures
We value and respect local & indigenous cultures. We seek out views that reflect all walks of life, and reflect those views in our programs. We are sensitive to the special needs and diverse backgrounds of individuals.

• Work ethic/integrity
Integrity forms the foundation of our organization. We demand the highest level of ethics and grow our organization based on interactions that promote mutual trust and respect with our stakeholders. We strive to ensure the highest level of organizational effectiveness by continually reviewing our programs and processes to improve quality and efficiency.

• Continuing education/lifelong learning
We believe that volunteer management skills can and should be continually improved and refined. We provide programs and services to foster continuing education/lifelong learning opportunities.
